Madikeri

in madikeri, we arranged for a 4 days trek, but before that went to see some of the area ourselves. In our first in Madikeri we went to the abby falls (8 km walk) on a very nice country road. We walked in a beautiful, serene lush area, filled with rivers, hills, falls, forests, plantations.

The second day in Madikeri we spent with the next day we went with Sham, whom we met in the trekking office and out of pure hospitality offered to take us to his farm house (half an hour drive in his Jeep to the country side). his house is very old, very big and one of the richest and most beautilful in the area. he owns coffee planataions, and his old family mansion is made mostly from teak wood. The house had wonderful invensions like hinge-less doors, wooden shades and more. it was very impressive and Sham was really nice and accomodating. His plantations were also very impresive, and had probably more than 100 types of vegetation and frutes. We also saw a snake passing by...

the next day we went out trekking: the two of us, our guide kumar, Hadar & Hagar, and Adi.We slept at family homes, very much secluded from the rest of society, we walked around 16 km a day (according to Kumar the guide, but seemed less to us). Everyday we had a relasxing swim in a river or waterfall that we pass along the way. the waters are mountain water, very cool and very clean. Kumar, our guide, was a really excellent guide with lots of knowledge of local birds, plants, trees and routes. He also had some very entertaining stories from his life and experiences, and some sad stories too. We made friends with he and spent both the evening before the trek and the evening after the trek with him. His email is: changappa_k@rediffmail.com Posted by Picasa
