Allepy

we left Kochin to Allepy. allepy is famous for its "backwaters" = something like a river's delta with many natural sweet water canals flowing to the sea

one of the major (and most expensive) attractions here is renting a house boat, cruising along quiet backwater canals.

indeed we went on this cruise for 1 night, on the luxurious house boat you see in these pictures. the crew consists of 3 personel - a cook, a punter and a captain. a punter is one who propells the boat by pushing the bottom of the cannal with a 4 meter long bamboo pole.

linda felt really guilty when she was waving at the poor people on the side of the canals. all the children were yelling: "School pen! One indian coin! chocolate! sweet!" but we had none.

when we first arrived on the boat, these tempting banannas and pineapples were waiting for the pick!
